Hi !

We're writing with some exciting news! The FCC is poised to accept applications for new Low Power FM radio stations and Prometheus is here to help. It's been a decade since the last opportunity to apply for an LPFM station and another application may not open again soon, if ever.

Read on for more about the new application window, our services, our Torchbearers Program, and our recent trip to Charleston, West Virginia for the Grassroots Radio Conference.

Upcoming LPFM Application Window

The FCC's upcoming LPFM application window, originally scheduled for this month, is now scheduled for December 6-13, 2023 after the FCC granted a request from Prometheus and our colleagues and allies. This is great news if you’re thinking about applying or if you know a local nonprofit that may be interested. Now’s the time to get started. We’d love to help you get your community’s voices on the air.

We are providing a range of support options, including engineering services, application review, and the Torchbearers Program.

Find A Frequency

The FM dial has never been more crowded and that means most cities don't have available frequencies for new LPFM stations. Smaller towns and rural areas have the most available frequencies. You can check availability in your area by using our zip code tool.

Torchbearers Program

The Torchbearers Program provides direct one-on-one support to groups applying for Low Power FM radio licenses in the upcoming window. Slots are limited but we are still accepting applications.

  • A case manager and advocate to help you get the most out of Prometheus’ resources and support.
  • Regular phone/video check-ins to make sure you have the information you need to submit a successful application and that you are on track to meet the filing deadline.
  • A final application review of your application once it is complete to check for quality and accuracy.
  • A strategy consultation on ways to maximize your chances of winning a license.
  • Channel & site search, preparation of LPFM application engineering section, engineering advice and support.

Apply for the Torchbearer program here.

Grassroots Radio Conference

We had a great time at the Grassroots Radio Conference last month! We led some sessions, attended some great ones and loved getting to see everyone. Highlights include a keynote address from Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! and the release of LPFM for Dummies. Big shout out to Damon and all the organizers at WTSQ-LP in Charleston for putting together a great conference.
